[오늘의 생활영어] not so far; 지금까지는 ~아니다

(Tim and David are talking at work…)

(팀과 데이빗이 직장에서 이야기를 나눈다…)

Tim: Have you had any luck finding an apartment?

팀: 어떻게 아파트 찾았어?

David: Not so far but I'm not giving up.

데이빗: 아직까지는 아닌데 포기한 거 아니야.

Tim: Have you thought about moving closer to work?

팀: 직장 가까이 이사하는 건 생각해 봤어?

David: Of course especially since the gas prices are sky high.

데이빗: 물론이지. 개스값이 치솟은 뒤로 더욱 그랬지.

Tim: Does that mean you're looking in different areas?

팀: 다른 지역들도 보고 있다는 뜻이야?

David: No. I've lived in the same neighborhood for almost twenty years and I'm not leaving now.

데이빗: 아니. 거의 20년을 한 동네에서 살았는데 지금 다른 데로 옮기지는 않을 거야.

Tim: But it would be so much cheaper.

팀: 그래도 다른 데가 훨씬 더 쌀 텐데.

David: I'm not going to give up the quality of life that I have.

데이빗: 지금 삶의 질을 포기할 생각 없어.

Tim: I know that's important to you.

팀: 너한테 그게 중요한 건 알지.

David: I have a lot of friends there as well.

데이빗: 거기 또 친구도 많이 있고.

*give up: 끊다. 포기하다.

“She has given up trying to learn English.” (그녀는 영어 배우는 거 포기했어.)

*sky high: 아주 비싸다.

“The real estate prices are sky high now.” (부동산 가격이 지금 천정부지야.)

*the quality of life: 삶의 질.

“The quality of life for the homeless should be improved.” (홈리스의 삶의 질이 향상돼야 해.)
